SIDARTHa Rapid Public Health Impact Assessment - Volcanic Ash Cloud 2010
With the spread of
the volcanic ash cloud across Europe after the eruption of the
Eyjafjallajoekull volcano in Iceland starting April 14th, 2010, the
SIDARTHa consortium developed the idea to accomplish a rapid assessment on the
potential public health impact of the ash cloud in the implementation
sites of the SIDARTHa project.
The objective of the
analysis was to assess if the SIDARTHa system is able to immediately
analyse upcoming potential health threats and to use this surveillance
system to investigate if the number of cases (differentiated by
age, severity, and specific syndromes) increased significantly from the
expected number of these cases during the volcanic ash cloud period
(April 14th to 22nd, 2010).
The report presents results as of May 15th, 2010.
